Your path to support
Grief When Someone Is Incarcerated
Support for the changes, separation, and losses that can follow a loved one’s incarceration.
You may be grieving their absence, a changed relationship, lost routines, or the future you expected together. You do not have to describe your relationship in a particular way to deserve support. Seeking support does not require excusing harm, maintaining contact, or making a decision about forgiveness.

You can acknowledge the harm someone caused and still need support for what you have lost. There is also space here if the person is not incarcerated, or if your own safety means ending contact.
